Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 8, 2026

YumYak (“we”, “us”) operates yumyak.ca, a Toronto food guide featuring restaurant discoveries, new openings, and event picks. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our site and how we use it.

Information we collect

1. Newsletter subscriptions

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. We use a double opt-in process: after you sign up, we send a confirmation email, and you only receive newsletters after you confirm. We send newsletters through Brevo. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

Under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), we only send you commercial electronic messages with your express consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

2. Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site, for example, which articles are read most. GA4 collects anonymized usage data such as pages viewed, time spent on a page, device type, and approximate location (city level). This data is processed by Google in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy. We do not use this data to identify individual visitors.

3. Advertising and affiliate links

Our site displays advertising placements and may contain affiliate links to products we mention (for example, sauces, ingredients, and gift sets in our Shop section). When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Clicking these links may set cookies or identifiers belonging to the advertiser or affiliate network.

Product recommendations and shop content are clearly labelled. Demo or sample products are marked as such until replaced with real affiliate offers.

4. Cookies and site functionality

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • remembering your preferences (for example, newsletter pop-up dismissal);
  • website security (Wordfence) and performance caching;
  • translation of site content (GTranslate);
  • analytics and advertising described above.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. A cookie-consent banner is shown to visitors so you can accept or decline non-essential cookies; essential cookies required for the site to function cannot be declined.

Quebec Law 25 and your rights

We follow the privacy principles of Quebec’s Law 25 (Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector) and Canada’s federal privacy law (PIPEDA). You have the right to:

  • request access to the personal information we hold about you;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • request deletion of your information (for example, removal from our newsletter list);
  • withdraw your consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within a reasonable time.

How we protect your information

We use reasonable technical and administrative safeguards, including website security monitoring and encrypted connections (HTTPS), to protect your information. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s privacy

Our site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our site evolves (for example, when we add new features or services). The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent version.
