From the moment we arrived, every detail reflected a commitment to excellence, creativity, and hospitality. The restaurantโs stunning waterfront setting creates a memorable atmosphere, but it is the food that truly takes center stage. Each course was beautifully presented and thoughtfully crafted, showcasing the incredible quality of Nova Scotiaโs local ingredients. Every dish felt like a work of art, balancing flavor, texture, and innovation in a way that left a lasting impression. The service was equally outstandingโwarm, knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about creating an unforgettable experience. Special thanks to Pam, who guided us through the menu with expertise and made us feel welcomed throughout the evening. Mystic has elevated Halifaxโs dining scene to a new level. It is more than just a meal; it is a culinary journey that celebrates the regionโs culture, ingredients, and creativity. Whether youโre a local or visiting Nova Scotia, a visit to Mystic is an absolute must. We left already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommended.

Insanely creative plates, outstanding tastes, stellar service with perfectly adventurous pairings. We arrived with high expectations and can gladly say they were exceeded. Thoroughly enjoyed the discovery menu, seated at the galley, watching the plating and admiring the craftsmanship. Loved the commitment to local ingredients, woven into a flavour tapestry that delighted us throughout. The tuna loin on a tapioca cracker was divine, clams & caviar were sinfully delicious and the smoked confit egg yolk opened up a new dimension of savoury pleasure. In fact, there were multiple elements in each course that impressed. Black honey brioche, ramp & cucumber relish and chokeberry gelรฉe - who knew? Similarly, the wine pairings were playful and completely enhanced each course. The eclecticism of some of the selections were a delight, as we both enjoyed being pleasantly surprised. All in all, a completely wonderful evening. Bravo!

We opted for the 8 course tasting menu, and it definitely hit the spot. The food was otherworldly yet delicious, and each dish was a feast for the eyes and palate (the pics speak for themselves). My sister also used sommelier to get her wine matched, and that definitely added to the already elevated experience. Set aside at least two hours and a half to really relish the food, drink and company. The service was fantastic- Mallorie had just the twinkle in the eye and the spring in her step to handle two somewhat tipsy and chatty Europeans. The interior is a clever homage to Nova Scotia as well as the foraging skills of the chef. Bravo!

The staff were personable and crazy efficient, the food was impeccable (I had the best pasta of my life with the lobster pasta on the tasting menu), and the building was gorgeous. Watching the sunset over the harbour as we were served course after beautiful course by friendly and professional staff was an ideal experience.
This beautiful modern restaurant left us deeply impressed in every aspect - the creativity and quality of each single dish, the wine pairing, the service, the atmosphere and the views.โฆThis beautiful modern restaurant left us deeply impressed in every aspect - the creativity and quality of each single dish, the wine pairing, the service, the atmosphere and the views. For us this restaurant clearly would deserve at least one Michelin star, perhaps even two. We had the two different 8 course menus with wine pairings, so 16 different dishes overall and all of them were on the same level; we couldnโt say which plates were the best: the lobster agnolotti with kelp vinegar, the halibut with smoked polenta, the acadian caviar with egg yolk, or the wolffish with crab hollandaise. This restaurant was one of the best we ever visited in Canada.

YumYak's take
Mystic is No. 16 on Canada's 100 Best 2026: eight-course tasting menus over Halifax Harbour. Menus, hours and booking, from public sources.
Halifax’s highest-ranked restaurant: No. 16 on Canada’s 100 Best 2026, in a glass dining room over the harbour.
- Order: A signature eight-course menu (Fauna or Biota), or the Discovery Menu at the Galley
- Best for: Special occasions and anyone who wants Atlantic seafood at its most refined
- Skip if: You want a quick meal (try the four-course Short Form Menu or the bar instead)
The background
Canada’s 100 Best ranks Mystic No. 16 for 2026, up five places from 2025 (CityNews Halifax). The list says the glass-wrapped building “captures the play of light on water” and that “ingredient harmonies are spot-on and flavours sing.”
Mystic offers four formats, per its site: two eight-course signature menus, Fauna and Biota; the eight-course Discovery Menu at the Galley, improvised nightly where kitchen and dining room meet; a four-course Short Form Menu at early and late seatings; and the Unwritten Bar, two bespoke cocktails each paired with a course, at the bar seats only. Chef de cuisine Malcolm Campbell previously cooked at Canoe and Auberge du Pommier in Toronto and at Cabot Cape Breton; sommelier Samuel Melanson runs the wine pairings.

What to order
- Fauna or Biota: eight courses through land and sea. Canada’s 100 Best’s examples: an Acadian caviar course of smoked egg yolk and wild sea flora, a lobster raviolo with locally grown saffron, baby halibut with gnocchi, smoked mussels and pickled wild leek.
- Discovery Menu: eight courses at the Galley, created in real time; limited dietary accommodation.
- Short Form Menu: four courses, very limited; choose it when booking.
- Wine: the list cites Nova Scotia bottles such as Lightfoot & Wolfville’s Small Lot Trio Brut and Blomidon Estate’s Chardonnay Reserve.
Menus change with the seasons.
