Our waters were never empty, service was very attentive. We really enjoyed the sommeliers recommendations and explanations about the choices and our meals. The atmosphere was casual and fun, and our table was comfortable with a nice view of the kitchen. We had the tasting menu, and the food was fun, inventive, and delicious. The tuna and watermelon with crispy quinoa was a highlight and great place to start! But the corn and pepper cappellacci was the star of the show, the pasta was perfectly done, the filling and sauce were incredible. I also felt like the portions were good. I often leave resturants of this calibre/price range feeling like the plates were very small and buying second dinner elsewhere lol, but I didn't feel like this was the case here. The Negroni and 'Chocolitini' (recommend by the our waiter Bridget when we asked about an expresso martini) were both perfect. The only low-light was that my halibut was a little overdone, which wouldn't have stood out as much if it wasn't for the price here and that everything else was perfect.

Every dish was creative, beautifully presented and, most importantly, absolutely delicious. The combination of exceptional local ingredients, bold flavors and the live-fire cooking made the meal truly special. But what really made the evening unforgettable was the service. Warm, professional, attentive and genuinely welcoming. Every detail was handled perfectly, and we felt truly taken care of throughout the entire experience. The atmosphere, the open kitchen, the food and the service all came together beautifully. Itโs rare to leave a restaurant feeling that you have experienced something truly memorable โ but that is exactly how we felt at Tribute. I honestly have no words to describe how much we enjoyed this experience. An exceptional restaurant and an absolute must-visit in Halifax. Highly recommended!

This was the best pasta Iโve had in my life and doubt it will ever be topped. You neeeeed to get the Ravioli!!! The service was amazing too, they made it their life mission to ensure my water glass was never empty, I donโt think Iโve drunken so much water in a restaurant before. Definitely coming back next time Iโm in Halifax!!

Knowing that this restaurant is a mere 1.5 hour flight from Ottawa makes me want to fly out just for this dish. The halibut while exceptional seemed underwhelming compared to the pasta. Not to say that it wasn't exceptional but the pasta was the star. The halibut paired with the tofu and sweet potato was well rounded and just the right amount of savouriness. The off menu wine pairing was well paired. Service was impeccable in a very casual yet detailed approach. If you value unpretentious service but fine dining quality this is that vibe. A true east coast hospitality.

You are able to watch Chef Collin and the team create dishes, paying tribute to his culinary learnings around the world. My fiancรฉ and I are really intrigued of watching a high end restaurant operate and it was such a treat. Staff were attentive and were patient with sharing their menu with us. They took their time explaining what their dishes were and it really showed as everyone working knew exactly what each dish was. The food was absolutely amazing. The flavours were unique and well balanced. Every flavour complemented the others. Panisse was a new dish I tried, who knew chickpeas could taste like that with goat cheese and crispy quinoa. Their handmade pasta was the star. Cappelletti de Caffe was a pasta with coffee in the dough, Such a interesting dish. The beef cheek, you don't need a knife to cut into that dish. We also tried their Spinach pasta in a white ragu sauce. Pasta was cut infront of us, cooked infront of us. I didnt even know ragu sauce can be made without tomatos. Experience was 10/10. I have not experienced fine dining like this before.

YumYak's take
Tribute is new to Canada's 100 Best at No. 53: Colin Bebbington's live-fire, handmade-pasta restaurant on Halifax's waterfront. Hours and booking.
A wood-fired, open-flame waterfront restaurant from Halifax-born Colin Bebbington, new to Canada’s 100 Best at No. 53.
- Order: Meat or seafood off the fire, with a handmade pasta
- Best for: Groups who want a lively, “kitchen party” dinner
- Skip if: You want a quiet, formal room
The background
Canada’s 100 Best ranks Tribute No. 53 in its first year on the list, describing “creative, ambitious flavour combinations” in a “cozy, welcoming dining room” where the vibe is “decidedly ‘kitchen party.'”
Chef Colin Bebbington trained at the Culinary Institute of America in Napa, staged at the French Laundry and Bouchon, worked for Joe Flamm at Spiaggia in Chicago and for Daniel Humm at Davies and Brook at Claridge’s in London. Three months at a pasta laboratorio in Bologna taught him to roll pasta by hand with a mattarello; his Scotian Heritage pop-up dinners across Nova Scotia led to Tribute, according to the restaurant’s own account. The cooking centres on live fire and charcoal, in an open kitchen.

What to order
- From the fire: meat and seafood, per Canada’s 100 Best.
- Handmade pasta: rolled by hand, per the restaurant.
The restaurant says its menu changes often and may differ from what is posted online.
Before you book
Tribute is dinner only, with doors at 5 p.m. It’s a convivial room, better for a loud table of four than a quiet anniversary.
