I had a great time while dining at Beurre Baratte. To get the full experience, I would recommend to book the kitchen top option where you can watch the chefs prepare/cook your dish infront of you. Also, I really appreciate the concept too because you can share the experience with the other customers, and as a tourist, I was able to get other recommended places to go to in Quebec city which was very helpful. After my whole trip, I would say that Beurre Baratte is the best restaurant in the city. Not really a big fan of French cuisine, however, their selection is highly approachable, finesse and delicioso. I’m still over the moon and thank you so much to the whole crew. Definitely, it was an amazing dining experience. Perfecto!

The open kitchen puts everything they are making front and center and you can see both the high level of execution and professionalism that is happening. This is clearly a labor of love and shouldn't be missed!

YumYak's take
A new Saint-Sauveur sharing-plates room around a concrete kitchen island, covered by Le Soleil in August 2026.
A sharing-plates restaurant built around a concrete kitchen island in Saint-Sauveur, from chef Maxime Tessier and Frédéric Boudreau (Le Soleil, Aug. 5, 2026).
- Order: The trout with beurre blanc and the spaghetti alla nerano
- Best for: A relaxed dinner for two to four people who like to share
- Skip if: You need lunch or a Sunday table; it opens Wednesday to Saturday evenings
The background
Le Soleil covered the new restaurant on Aug. 5, 2026. It took over the Saint-Sauveur space that Patente et Machin occupied for 12 years, and the centrepiece is a large concrete island shared by the kitchen and the dining room. Chef Maxime Tessier wants it to feel like a kitchen party around the counter; partner Frédéric Boudreau runs the floor, and the cooks sometimes serve the plates themselves.
The format is small, local sharing plates, built on market ingredients from local producers.

What to order
- Trout with beurre blanc and garden beans.
- Spaghetti alla nerano with fried zucchini and pecorino.
- Confit pork belly with cucumber and roasted fennel.
These were on the early menu Le Soleil described; the menu changes, so check the restaurant’s channels for the current list.
Before you book
