The background

BOUS was founded by five friends from Iran who now live in Montréal; the name means “kiss” in Farsi, Tastet reports. Cofounder Hamed Masoumi leads the kitchen, cooking from the recipes and memories of his childhood.

Tastet describes a calm, warm room with natural materials, soft lighting, nods to Iranian art and architecture, and a striking central bar. It is built for long, unhurried meals rather than a loud night out.

What to order

  • Golden Tahchin: the crisp-bottomed saffron rice cake, one of the signature dishes Tastet names.
  • Kashk-o-Bademjoon: smoked eggplant with fermented yogurt, crispy onions and mint.
  • Ghormeh Sabzi: the herb stew, made here with five herbs, red beans, dried lime and a lamb shank.
  • Saffron rice: made with rice from northern Iran, per Tastet.
  • To finish: the house sticky date cake with ice cream, plus mocktails built on Persian flavours.
