There were no bad dishes for all the mains. Cocktails were great. Desserts lacked for me. It was not the most impressive compared to the other tasting menus we had throughout the trip. My gf was more warm to them. So, might just be my palette. Worth visiting again most certainly.

The flavors were creative and amazing, the service was excellent, and the experience with the head chef explaining all the dishes was really unique. I am celiac and we called ahead to arrange for a gluten-free meal for me, which they were able to accommodate no problem. Everything gluten free looked different from the main meal which felt like an added layer of safety, and the staff verbally confirmed my gluten free dish each time they brought another course. We highly recommend this restaurant for amazing flavor and ambiance.

The local white and red wines by the glass we tried were spot-on. Service and presentation were fantastic. We have dined at “hole-in-the-wall” establishments and our fair share of starred restaurants, and aren’t picky eaters. I really wanted to like the food, but there seemed to be something missing from each dish. The amuse bouche was good, but I was expecting an explosion of flavors which I didn’t seem to get. We ordered an extra dish: the scallop with salmon roe, beurre blanc, dill oil. The predominant flavor I got was layers of saltiness; the dill didn’t seem to shine through. The cook on the scallop was flawless, though Next course was the mackerel with mussels, tomatoes, broth, and basil oil. The fish was cooked beautifully but, again, the predominant flavor I could taste was salt. Couldn’t taste the basil Pasta norma with ricotta and basil emulsion was next. The fettucine was cooked beautifully. But the sauce flavor was predominantly sweet. Don’t get me wrong, I do like some sweetness on my pasta, but this seemed too sweet. I haven’t been to Sicily yet, but is that how pasta norma should be? Couldn’t taste the basil either The beef chuck flat course was next. The meat had a predominantly sweet flavor - not sure if that’s how it was supposed to taste like, but I wasn’t a fan. The cook on the potatoes was delicious. Couldn’t taste the nori on them, though The peach dessert (gelato, torta, creme anglaise) was a little too sweet for me, but the spouse liked it. The peach gelato was delicious Our table’s vantage point was awesome — directly in front of the fire/plating station — and I loved how our seats were angled to watch the coordinated preparations of the chefs. The pace of the courses was up our alley. The service team was very attentive, professional, and used gender-neutral references (a huge plus for us!). Were it not for the food, our experience was lovely.

We were told that every dish is finished over a wood fire, which you can see from your table in the restaurant. We got the 4 course tasting menu for $125 per person, and while the flavours were good, the dishes were inconsistent and didn’t quite live up to the wood-fired concept of the restaurant or ideas of the menu. Amuse bouche: Cracker filled with peperonata and topped with an anchovy sauce Was a good amuse bouche. The flavours of the sauce and the filling complemented each other quite well and there was a nice smoky pepper flavour. The cracker, however, was a little soggy and the peperonata a little too cold. 1st course: Braised kohlrabi finished on fire, with a spinach zabaione sauce, PEI mussels cooked on fire, Swiss chard, squid ink bread crumb, and sweet and sour beet sauce. I did like this dish and while the flavour of the kohlrabi was good, there was no smoky flavour from the wood fire. If they didn’t tell me it was finished over fire, I would have no idea. The mussels, however, were very smoky, but some people in my party had mussels which were extremely over cooked to the point that they were rubbery. I also couldn’t really taste the beet sauce, as it was overpowered by the zabaione. 2nd course: Lasagna with pork and cuttlefish, with squid ink béchamel sauce, and caciocavallo fondue. This dish was also quite tasty, but nothing particularly remarkable. I liked the crispy top on the lasagna and the texture of the cuttlefish as it paired well with the pork filling, but once again, there was no smoky flavour you would expect from wood-fire finished food, which was slightly disappointing. Also you couldn’t really taste the caciocavallo (which has a strong and unique flavour), which is sad as it is one of my favourite cheeses! 3rd course: Braised beef cheek finished over fire, topped with a beef jus sauce with olive oil, onion sauce, mint oil, anchovy oil, and parsnip 2 ways (roasted over fire and puréed) Once again, while the flavours of this dish were good and well balanced, there was still no smokiness! The beef cheek just tasted like a plain braised beef cheek and was even a bit too soft for my taste, as it was cooked to the point where it felt a little mushy. I did enjoy the sauces and the parsnips though. Dessert: Steamed oven torta with sweet corn crème anglaise and peach sorbet drizzled with olive oil This course was really delicious and I loved the addition of the olive oil, though I wish you could actually taste the corn in the crème anglaise. The peach flavour of the sorbet was quite strong and went well with the warm torta. Overall, I found the flavours of everything tasty, but a little simple. Definitely nothing super spectacular or memorable. As I love the taste of wood-fired food, I had high expectations, but most dishes had no smoke flavour at all or were inconsistently cooked. Additionally, many dishes were described to us with flavours you couldn’t really taste in the finished product (like the caciocavallo or sweet corn). I almost feel like if I didn’t get a description of what each dish SHOULD have been I might have liked it better as the food tasted good, it just didn’t match or live up to the descriptions. The service was excellent however as the staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely bring people back to eat here again, just don’t expect anything special from the wood-fire concept.
