Each course has well-balanced taste, mixed sweetness, savory and sourness, so flavorful and fulfilling. Didnโt expect to like their duck and beef striploin that much, it was so good that I would love to come back to try something different again!

With this weather, we could even catch the sunset at Kits after dinner. โฝ๏ธ First course: red shrimp โ I think it was the MVP. The shrimp was great, the sauce was great, and the bread was crispy outside and soft inside โ delicious. โฝ๏ธ Second course: foie gras oyster โ also tasty. The shaved part melted in the mouth like white chocolate, but the shiso tuna was just okay. The sake jelly palate cleanser was good too. โฝ๏ธ Third course: the Indian curry beans โ I didn't really get it. Not my favorite dish โฝ๏ธ Fourth course: duck breast โ the meat itself was nice, but I wasn't a fan of the Korean hot sauce pairing. The duck sausage and morel mushroom soup that came after was delicious, though. โฝ๏ธ Fifth course: asparagus pasta โ loved it! The veloutรฉ sauce tossed with the pasta was heavenly. But I think the asparagus on the side shouldn't have been chargrilled โ a different cooking method would feel more creative. โฝ๏ธ Sixth course: main course sirloin steak and pastrami โ Solidly good, tender, but the seasoning didn't bring any surprises. Watched the pastry chef work in front of me all evening. โฝ๏ธ The goat cheesecake used focaccia, but it felt like an overnight focaccia French toast. โฝ๏ธ The final Hojicha Strawberry was pretty good โ I liked the texture and layers, and it wasn't too sweet. The petit fours๏ผmeringue cookies at the end Two cocktails ๐ธ were okay, but not really their strong suit. ๐ Atmosphere and service were great, pacing was fine โ about 1.5 hours total. ๐ AnnaLena

Almost every dish was very well executed, and the quality of the ingredients was clearly excellent. We also chose the premium wine pairing, which was amazing and particularly good value for money. The staff was very friendly throughout the evening and clearly passionate about what they do, which made the experience even more enjoyable. In terms of small areas for improvement, I would suggest working a bit more on the storytelling. We would have loved to hear more about the restaurant, its concept, and perhaps have the chef come to the table at some point. I also did not always fully understand the connection between the different dishes, which sometimes made the experience feel slightly fragmented. Stronger storytelling could really help bring everything together. That being said, given that this is a one-star restaurant at a very fair price point, these small points are easy to forgive, and the overall experience fully deserves a 5-star review. Overall, a very impressive experience and definitely a restaurant we would recommend.

I was a bit disappointed the table we were sitting at didn't have a view into the kitchen (there's a wall which separates the two sections of the restaurant and we were on the side looking outside rather than into the kitchen), but the whole experience was up from there. While the menu is an 8-course Chef's course, they offered two palate cleansers in-between meals and an additional dessert at the very end, which ends up being 11-courses instead. The "Off the Coast" dish was a great start and I enjoyed everything which came after. My favourites were definitely the "What am I?" which was a pasta with corn broth. I enjoyed the chewiness of the pasta and the corn broth has a nice subtle sweetness to it. I also thought the goat cheese sundae with white chocolate and caramel at the bottom was fantastic and not too sweet. Service was also excellent throughout the meal. My only comparison point is aKin in Toronto, and I thought AnnaLena was friendlier and a bit less stuff. In terms of value, I think only $168 pp is an absolute steal for a restaurant of this quality. Our bill for two people after tax and tips came to about $450, whereas it was about $625 for aKin, and I think overall I enjoyed AnnaLena more.

The brioche is the all-time staple item and is still very delicious. The oyster with shaved foie is second to none. Love it so much. The goat cheesecake focaccia dessert is one of the kind. Very special yet paired all the ingredients very well. This is a much better meal I had compared to the one I had at St. Lawrence.

YumYak's take
AnnaLena in Kitsilano is Vancouver's only Two-Michelin-Star restaurant for 2026. Tasting menu, price, booking and what to expect, from public sources.
Vancouver’s only Two-Michelin-Star restaurant for 2026: a playful, tasting-menu-only room near Kitsilano Beach, and No. 12 on Canada’s 100 Best 2026.
- Order: The tasting menu ($198 on the official site, subject to change); watch for the signature torn bread
- Best for: A milestone dinner with a sense of humour
- Skip if: You want ร la carte or a quick meal โ it is tasting menu only
The background
On Oct. 6, 2026, the Michelin Guide promoted AnnaLena from One to Two Stars, the only Two-Star restaurant in the Vancouver selection. Michelin calls it “one of Vancouver’s most polishedโand deliciousโdining experiences,” with no white tablecloths or formal atmosphere.
Canada’s 100 Best ranks it No. 12 for 2026 and notes the room’s Lego sculptures and Star Wars memorabilia against navy-blue dรฉcor. Chef Mike Robbins has cooked a tasting menu only since 2020, adding dishes one at a time; wine director Reverie Beall runs a list of hard-to-find small-producer wines.

What to order
- The oyster with apple-jalapeรฑo mignonette and shaved foie gras, a signature per Canada’s 100 Best.
- The torn bread with mussels and broth; Canada’s 100 Best calls the torched torn bread brushed with confit garlic oil “a customer favourite from day one.”
- The cheese course, which recently paired griddled lemon-caraway sourdough with goat-cheese cheesecake (Canada’s 100 Best).
The menu changes constantly, so treat these as examples, not promises.
Before you book
The $198 tasting menu is how AnnaLena works; there’s no ordering ร la carte. For a two-star room, the tone is relaxed.
