The background

Michelin added Kavita as a new Bib Gourmand on Oct. 6, 2026, and named it Vancouver’s Best Service winner. Its inspectors say chef Tushar Tondvalkar draws on his upbringing in Mumbai and the seaside town of Malvan, and on memories of cooking over fire with his family’s matriarchs. Kavita means “poetry.”

Canada’s 100 Best places it at No. 96 in 2026 and says the ร  la carte dishes “showcase the depth of South Asian fare beyond typical curries and chutneys.” The restaurant’s site says the chef worked at Gaggan and Gaa in Bangkok and at Vancouver’s Blue Water Cafรฉ before opening Kavita.
